Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag (CTF) is an annual competition for aspiring cyber security enthusiasts in Brunei Darussalam to exercise ethical hacking skills and gain experience with real-life IT scenarios. Joining a CTF competition is one of the most interesting and fun ways to get into the cybersecurity field and for IT professionals to test their skills and get better at what they do.

Cyber Battle is a Jeopardy-style CTF competition. Teams will attempt to solve challenges (computer security puzzles) to find “flags” (a hidden string of text) and submit them on the CTF scoring server to earn points.
Challenges are divided into categories, each with a different level of difficulty. Points for each challenge will depend on the level of difficulty. The more challenges solved, the more flags obtained, and the more points will be awarded. The team with the most points will win the competition.

This competition is open to:
Citizens, permanent residents, and foreign nationals residing in Brunei Darussalam who hold a valid Brunei Darussalam identity card (yellow, red, or green); and
Citizens of ASEAN Member States (by invitation only)
Qualifying Round
A qualifying round will be held ONLINE on Sunday, 31 August 2025. All participants will need access to computers and are responsible for their own internet connection during the specified time. At the end of the Qualifying Round, 10 teams with the most points will qualify for the Final round.
This event will utilize 2 platforms:
Cyber Battle CTF Network (Host challenges, flag submission and display scoreboard)
Discord (for handling online inquiries)
Final Round
The final round of Cyber Battle: Capture The Flag 2025 will be held on Monday, 15 September 2025. Teams that have qualified must be present at the competition venue to participate in the final round. Each participant is required to bring their identification card (IC) for verification purpose.
Participants are required to bring their own computer/laptop, network adapters & software for their own use during the competition. Wired connections to access the Capture The Flag (CTF) network will be provided to all participants. A maximum of 3 laptops for each team can be connected to the CTF network. You may bring additional laptops but they will not be allowed to connect to the CTF network.
Prohibitions
Participants are prohibited from the following actions during the competition.
Attacking any servers, computers or network devices other than the target system.
Denial of Service / Distributed Denial of Service attacks.
Sharing information about the challenges to anyone other than your registered team members.
Getting help or support from anyone besides your registered team members.
Deleting flags from game servers.
Performing destructive attacks against the game servers i.e. rm –rf /
Performing any illegal actions against internet resources.
Smoking, vaping & e-cigarettes are not allowed at the competition venue.
Any participant found to break the rules of the competition will be disqualified at the discretion of the organizers.

What is Cyber Battle?
Cyber Battle is a ‘Jeopardy’ style cybersecurity capture the flag (CTF) competition.
In Jeopardy style CTF, players will be presented with questions (challenges) divided into categories. For each challenge, a specific number of points has been set based on its difficulty level.
Players are required to solve the challenges to obtain a secret key known as a “flag”.
Flags in Cyber Battle will tend to be phrases or sentences enclosed with CBCTF{}.
Flag example: CBCTF{th15_i5_cyb3r_b4ttl3}.
Finding this flag is proof that the team solved the challenge.
The flag will then be submitted to the dedicated score server and once the flag is verified as correct, the team will be awarded with points.
At the end of the game, the team with the highest points will win the competition.

Cyber Battle CTF operates on a wired network and a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) basis, meaning you are required to bring your own laptop equipped with an Ethernet port during the Final. A maximum of 3 laptops per team are permitted to connect to the CTF network. You can use any operating system (for Linux/Unix, 32-bit is preferred), tools or software that may aid in completing the challenges.
